TERRABA RESTAURANT

There is one main reason this wonderful restaurant is on our radar – the exceptional Filet Mignon (my go-to dish at Terraba). Our group of friends also raves about the fish dishes, especially the fish burger. With a mix of local and global cuisine, there will be something for everyone!

THE SETTING, VIEW AND SURROUNDINGS

Terraba sits right off the costanera, on the ‘ocean side’, a minute or two south of the entrance to Ojochal. Parking is more than plentiful and you will never have an issue finding a spot.

In a typical local fashion the restaurant is open on three sides, the overhanging tin roof ready to provide spectacular sound effects during heavy rains. Seating is plentiful and the tables can be easily arranged to accommodate larger groups. Numerous fans located along the perimeter of the eating area provide a constant breeze. An outside seating patio, shaded by large umbrellas, gives glimpses of the Pacific Ocean and is a perfect vantage point for observing the Scarlet Macaws as they cruise up and down the coast in search of beach Almond fruit.

Toilets are located to the right of the kitchen, between the restaurant and the outdoor patio.

A big green area bordering the parking lot, shaded by huge trees, is a nice place to relax and let the kids have a play in the grass.

THE DECOR

The wooden floors, tables, support and roof beams give the restaurant a warm and natural feel while the area bordering the kitchen is set up as a rustic lounge. Plentiful plants lining the perimeter blend with the surrounding trees and jungles but still allow for a view of costanera and the colourful buses, giant cattle trucks and various local vehicles as they speed by.

THE FOOD

I have already mentioned the Filet Mignon, which is excellent. But you will find so much variety here – the menu is organised by food groups – starters, salads, ceviches, pastas, shrimp, chicken, beef, seafood, rice and ‘fast food’ like burgers and deserts. A great mix of local casada and a variety of international dishes.
